Praise & Worship Rienforced
1 [a] I will extol the LORD at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips.
Psalm 34:1
Getting ready to lead worship (co-lead really) when you're sick as a dog is a completely different experience altogether. It is incredibly difficult to genuinely give praise to God when you're sick because at that very moment, you just feel like crap. Throughout the entire episode, part of me kept thinking: "Alright, I know there's something to give praise to God for right now, but I'm not seeing it."
Up to this point, I've never asked myself what praise and worship really meant. I've always equated it to an emotional feel or high that you get when God has blown you away. The entire time that I was practicing and preparing for worship, I didn't "feel" like I was praising God because that emotional high was tempered by my constant coughing. I didn't feel as excited for worship heading into pre-service prayer.
It wasn't until prayer that God clearly spoke to me. He said: "You don't need to sound good to lead worship." The heart of what he had been getting at this entire time was that I had been more concerned with sounding good than coming to God. Praise is the act of exalting God, not only for what's he's done, but for who he is and what he will do. The value of understanding this is made special only in remembering the path it took to learn it.
